NEWSLETTER August/September
2007 Last
Meeting – An interested crowd came out for our June meeting,
where we showed a ZNS documentary entitled, Remembering the Contract.
Professor Tracey Tremaine from the College of the Bahamas, the historian
behind this project, was available for questions. Undoubtedly, we all
learned a lot about the importance of oral history, and were reminded
how this field needs to be pursued urgently, as time is ticking.
New Website Feature – Earlier
this year, we started recording our meetings on video. To make these documents
available to a wider audience, some of these videos are now available
online, through our website, on
Google® Video™.
NEXT MEETING - As many of you already
know, Sir Clement Maynard has recently published the first volume of his
memoirs, entitled "Put On More Speed." The book is a must read for everyone
interested in Bahamian history, and we are happy that Sir Clement has
agreed to talk about his book at our September meeting.

Sir Clement Maynard –
Put On More Speed

We look forward to seeing you there
as we resume our monthly meetings after the summer break!

members and the interested public.

Help Needed – In order to expand
our online services, we would like to make our library accessible by means
of an online catalogue. Is there anybody out there, who can set us up
with OpenBiblio, that is to get it to run on our server and teach us how
to use it? Your help is appreciated. Thank you!
Wanted
– Does anyone have old issues of the Queen's College magazine
The Magpie? I am particularly interested in 1945, but I think
that there are a lot of QC Old Scholars who would be interested in seeing
as many of them as possible. Also, I know that QC is trying to assemble
as much of the school's history as possible. Old issues of the Magpie
would make a valuable addition to their collection. The QC Foundation's
website is www.qcbahamas.com;
they can be contacted at foundation@qchenceforth.com.
