NEWSLETTER September
2008 Museum Re-Opened (and Temporarily
Closed Again) – Summer is over, and the museum was open, if only
briefly. Like many other establishments on the island, we closed at noon
today, and battened up the building. Waiting for the storm(s) to pass,
we hope to re-open soon. Stay safe!
September Meeting – Our September
meeting is scheduled for September 25th, 2008, at 6:00 pm – please
note the location, as it is different to our usual meeting place:
| Douglas
Shephard:
"The Bahamas Lighthouse Museum."
Mr. Shephard of the Lighthouse Museum will not
only show members and friends of the Bahamas Historical Society
their museum, but he will also tell us about the important work
of their organisation in preserving our nation’s historic
lighthouses.
Bahamas Lighthouse Museum –
East Street North
(between Bay Street and the waterfront)
Thursday, September 25th, 2008, 6:00 pm – This presentation is free
of charge.

Do
you recognise this? – In last month’s newsletter,
we showed you an Out Island scene. For those who did not recognise it:
the sketch showed the salt operations on the island of Inagua; hence the
white mounds in the picture.
This month, we are showing you a Nassau
street corner where sadly an historical building has just been torn down
a few days ago. Do you know what it was?
This month, we are showing you an old sketch
of an Out Island scene. Can you figure out what it shows?
